Course Description:  
This interactive, online training has been designed with high school counselors in mind, providing "insider" information that can be used to help educate concurrent enrollment students during their high school years and beyond.

Course Learning Outcomes 
Counselors will learn the most important topics of college academic advising with special attention to topics that are specific to concurrent enrollment students.  Counselors will learn how to access information specific to Aims’ students and resources and tools available to set students up for success in their college courses while in high school and beyond.  

Topical Outline 
  • Counselors will learn the following topics:
  • The difference between AA, AS, AGS, AAS degrees.
  • What is a Degree with Designation (DWD)?
  • How to help high school students decide which degree is best to help them achieve their goals.
  • Which general education courses are best?
  • GT vs non GT.
  • How is college different from HS?
  • Different delivery methods.
  • Corequisites and Prerequisites.
  • Restricted Programs, Selective/Competitive Programs, Waitlists.
  • Tools of Advising.
  • AP, IB, CLEP, Course Challenge.
  • Academic Standing - Processes and Implications (grade replacements).
  • Resources on Campus (Disability Access Services, Student Activities, Tutoring, Career Services).
  • Extenuating Circumstances that create barriers.
