The 1940s saw Hollywood entertainment that provided both reliefs from the war effort in comedies and a postwar rise of a new style of crime genre, followed by the 1950s bringing the apex of the movie musical and the greatest decade of Alfred Hitchcock’s distinctive thrillers. In each class, exemplary films will be introduced, screened, and then discussed, placing them in their historical context and discussing its movies, actors, and directors.  This class is for the movie lover, the history buff, the person who loves to escape into films to understand more than meets the eye.  In this class, we will ask students to screen the class movies at home prior to the class discussion of each film.  The movies that will be viewed and discussed are all available on Amazon Prime. For Non-Prime members, Prime Video is available as a standalone streaming service for $8.99 a month.
