Designed for family historians seeking to transition from casual searchers to analytical researchers, this curriculum prioritizes systematic methodology, standard-compliant proof evaluation, and advanced community cluster analysis. Students will learn to navigate key historical record groups while building a foundational framework to confidently evaluate evidence, resolve identity conflicts, and dismantle long-standing lineage "brick walls."

Week 1: Foundational Frameworks, Ethics, and Source Citations
Week 2: The Structured Research Cycle and Population Baselines
Week 3: Vital Events and Identity Markers (Birth, Marriage, Death)
Week 4: Locating Ancestors in Place and Community (Land and Court)
Week 5: Movement, Military Service, and Transnational Migration
Week 6: Genetic Genealogy, Cluster Research, and Brick-Wall Synthesis


Handouts will be provided. This class meets in a computer lab so students can access online resources for their search.
