Professional Dog Trainer (Full Program)

Through classroom and hands-on practice, you'll learn how to help the pet dog community understand their dogs and how to best nurture them for long-term companionship. Focus will be on canine body language, communication, behavior modification, dog training techniques, learning theory, cooperative care, how to coach humans, and different career options.

Created by Angela Murray CBCC-KA, UW-AAB, and offered exclusively by Continuing Education at Aims Community College, this two-part program prepares you to successfully pass the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT) exam. CCPDT is the leading independent certifying organization for the dog training profession.

This runs over the course of two semesters.

Students will be required to complete a Volunteer Waiver for the Animal Friends Alliance prior to beginning the hands-on practice portion of the course. Students will be required to attend Thursday evening lecture classes and can choose to attend the hands-on portion on either Friday or Saturday or both.

Fall Schedule:
Thursdays Classroom 6-8pm (Class dates: Aug. 21 - Dec. 11, skip Sept 18, Sept 25 and Nov 27)
Fridays Hands-on Lab 6-8pm (Lab dates Aug. 29; Sept 12; Oct 3 and 17, Nov 14 and 21, Dec 5)
Saturdays: Hands-on Lab 10:30am-12:30pm (Lab dates Aug. 23, Sept 6, Oct 4 and 18, Nov 1 and 15, Dec 6 and 20)
